In front of the deputies, members of the government and public bodies in charge of questions related to the status of the person and the civil status in Cameroon spoke in full responsibility on the lack of birth certificates in the country. They provided information on the case and stressed the importance of civil registration. Indeed, in addition to constituting a fundamental right for the citizen, the birth certificate is essential, even indispensable for the exercise of many other human rights. Including the right to identity, parentage and access to basic social services such as health, education and many others. The problems raised being the remoteness of civil registration centers in rural areas, the poverty and neglect of the populations, cultural barriers, illiteracy, sexist prejudices, corruption and the lack of simplification of the registration system. registration and reconstitution of civil status, red tape and other social evils not in accordance with ethics and morals. MEPs see digitization as the right solution. However, we should always count on sensitizing the populations on the need for enlistment. As for the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie, he proposes a paradigm shift and suggests that civil status officers go to hospitals to enroll births, failing to create new civil registration centers.
