Some key figures of the electric power sector in Cameroon

Cameroon's electricity sector is in trouble. The key figures show that:

7% annual growth rate of demand for electrical energy in Cameroon;

50% rate of supply to the large metropolises of Cameroon in electrical energy;

More than 50% of the wooden poles in the country need to be replaced, because being rotten;

From 2015 to 2025, investments of the order of 700 billion CFA francs were to be made in order to modernize the electricity transmission network in Cameroon;

About 6.5% of electrical energy evaporates in the distribution circuits, in particular due to multifaceted fraud and the quality of the equipment;

Cameroon loses 65% of electrical energy in transport and 29% during distribution due to the obsolescence of the network;

Cameroon loses ½ point of growth each year because of the energy deficit;

To achieve emergence in 2035, Cameroon should invest 3,700 billion CFA francs in the sector until 2025 (including 2,500 billion to increase production from 1,200 MW to 3,000 MW).
