WHO is sounding the alarm against a worrying trend of the Covid-19 which is taking shape in Africa

The World Health Organization headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland

The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Mr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has been warning since Thursday April 17, 2020 against what he calls a "worrying trend" that is emerging in Africa, indicating a 51% increase in the number of people infected and a 60% increase in the number of coronavirus deaths reported on the continent (over a week). WHO is working to improve the health of many people around the world, including vulnerable people in different parts of the world. Covid-19 decimates communities and disrupts economies by causing considerable suffering. WHO urgently calls for initiatives for a large-scale societal movement in order to end the pandemic as quickly as possible. The WHO Director-General calls on leaders around the world to:
          1) an indispensable political commitment from States and which can be reinforced by a coordinated and pragmatic response strategy;
          2) a personal commitment by Heads of State to mobilize communities and strengthen the momentum of a societal movement against Covid-19.
All this is important for strengthening solidarity and essential for the success of national and international interventions.
