A unique access code for Mobile Money operators
Access to mobile financial services will now be regulated by a single code, # 237 #. It is a decision signed on November 26, 2019 by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications (Minpostel). Minette Libom Li Likeng determines the conditions and operating rules for (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) for access to the national electronic communications aggregation platform in Cameroon. According to the Minpostel, the platform aims to ensure fair conditions of interconnection, reduce the costs of mobile financial transactions and promote financial inclusion. This decision comes when several mobile operators in Cameroon were using different codes from each other. Like the code # 150 # of the operator Orange, which gives access to the Orange Money service, or * 126 # to access the money transfer service via mobile at MTN Cameroon. This platform is thus housed at Cameroon postal services (the public postal operator in Cameroon) which manages it. And the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART) is responsible for bringing the ministerial decision into service. ART director Philémon Zo'o Zame invites network operators and electronic communications service providers to interconnect within 30 days of November 26, 2019, at the latest on Next December 26, for the provision of mobile financial services. This project to create a unique USSD code for Mobile Money services has been launched by the State since July 2017.
