Reduce its consumption of electricity by 2 billion FCFA, an agreement signed between the government and the International Organization of the Francophonie
According to a report by the Exergie Group of Africa, presented in Yaoundé on November 25, 2019, during the launch of the program for monitoring, control and optimization of electricity bills in the public sector, the biggest consumption pockets are the street lighting and medium voltage subscribers (the entire state productive sector), “The rate we have compared to other countries is extremely high. At this level, it is necessary to identify the meters, the points of subscription and implement the counters to measure the real consumption of the lighting ", explains Goure Henri Seye Bi, general manager of Exergie of Africa. Regarding the medium voltage, the expert said that the data collected from the electrical energy distribution company in Cameroon ENEO, show that the State of Cameroon today uses a subscribed power of 40 megawatts. In fact, according to his study, the need is well below this value, about 11 Megawatts. So we come to deduce that 71% of unnecessary additional power that costs money to the state. "We will have to reduce the powers subscribed to fetch an economy around 1.5 billion by carrying out actions that cost nothing to the taxpayer," says the boss of Exergie Africa. The Secretary General of the Ministry of Water and Energy, Adolphe Ndjouke Thome, stresses that the program for monitoring, controlling and optimizing electricity bills in the public sector will be implemented thanks to an agreement signed with the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF). The goal is "to identify pockets that could lead to savings for the government," says Kanel Engandja-Ngoulou, a specialist in the cooperation and development program, who is also a representative of the OIF.
