This November 21, 2019, Yaoundé is hosting the extraordinary summit of CEMAC Heads of State

The heads of state of the six member states of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central African States begin to meet in Yaoundé on November 21 and 22, 2019 in extraordinary session. The session is convened by the Head of State of Cameroon, President Paul Biya, in his capacity as President-in-Office of the Conference of Heads of State of CEMAC. The session will focus on the state of the community’s economy and an assessment of efforts to achieve subregional integration. The summit, which will be held a few weeks after the Grand National Dialogue held in Yaoundé from September 30 to October 4, 2019, will examine the measures taken to resolve the crisis in the northwestern and southwestern regions of Cameroon. "The session will provide an opportunity for Cameroonians to reaffirm their attachment to peace and harmony, as well as to the unity and progress of their country". Heads of State and delegations will work on the report of the work of the Council of Ministers on the review of the functioning of sub-regional institutions and the budget of CEMAC. The session will also examine the results of CEMAC since the last extraordinary N'Djamena summit in Chad on March 24, 2019. The insecurity posing a challenge in the Lake Chad basin and the drop in fuel prices posing a threat of inflation, the economic community must seek safeguard measures. Despite the difficulties, experts suggest that the outlook for the next three years is favorable. The growth rate of the region should stabilize at the end of 2019 at 3.2%, 3.5% in 2020 and 2021 against 1.5% in 2018, -0.2% in 2017 and -0.1% in 2016. According to the summit program, the heads of state and their delegations are expected to start arriving in Cameroon from this Thursday afternoon. They will be received at the Yaoundé International Airport in Nsimalen and will be received later at 7 p.m., received at the Palace by the Cameroonian presidential couple, President Paul Biya, and his wife, Chantal Biya, who will offer them a dinner at this effect. Friday, President Paul Biya will chair from 10 am the deliberations of the extraordinary summit of heads of state of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central African States. Summit delegates are expected to leave Yaoundé after the summit.
