Towards a bitumen production unit, the Department of Public Works (Mintp) has initiated reflections
Reflections have been made in the ministerial department on the fact that bitumen production is occurring in Cameroon. There is talk of considering a bitumen production unit in Cameroon. This has been the object of the concern of the experts who are working on the project at the ministry headed by Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi. They explain that "such a unit could be set up at the behest of the public authorities or at the initiative of private partners". However, as several investors have shown interest in running the project, the appropriate option will be a call to the event. Already, the prime minister would have asked the Minister of Public Works to issue a call for expressions of interest for the creation of the bitumen production unit in the country. The idea follows the one that favors local materials for road infrastructure and the finding established by the Mintp during the Council of Cabinet held May 23, 2019 in Yaounde. According to the minister, "the possibility for Cameroon not to import bitumen could lower the costs of road construction".
