Youth employment: Experts advocate pooling resources

A reflection of four days was organized by the University of Yaounde II for new strategies to adopt for a better professional integration of the young people from 20 to 24 July. The conference, which brought together French-speaking African countries, focused on the theme "Improving Youth Employment Policies in Francophone Africa". Chaired by the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, it was noted by the latter that "the Cameroonian labor market is characterized by both an informal sector, with a percentage of 80% and a unemployment rate estimated at 13% nationally, of which 15% and 20% respectively in Yaounde and Douala. One-third of young people aged 15 to 35 do not have decent jobs. " For him indeed, it is the qualification that makes the lack of jobs for millions of young people in Cameroon. So, the trend is bad. How to reverse it? Efforts should be made to converge by changing the paradigm and perception of vocational training. To this end, strategies have been found, among which, bringing together all the actors working in this sector to pool resources and improve the productivity of results; capacity building of all actors in terms of initial training in a bachelor's degree, a master's degree or a doctorate to finally be more useful. Five French-speaking African countries, including Cameroon, Senegal, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Congo Brazzaville, as well as academics, researchers and technical and financial partners participated in this discussion.
