MINADER- the Peace Corps: A memorandum of understanding to support communities and improve living conditions in rural areas

MINADER Gabriel MBAÏROBE and DG/Peace Corps, Ms Kristina Nicole SENE

Gabriel MBAÏRO, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), and Kristina Nicole SENE, Director General of the U.S. government's Peace Corps agency, signed an agreement in Yaoundé on November 22, 2023, aimed at creating a synergy of actions to support rural communities and stakeholders, in line with the national development strategy 2020-2030 (SND30), which recognizes that grassroots communities face immense challenges and expectations in terms of food security, and that rural areas are slow to become growth poles. MINADER and the Peace Corps are focusing on partnership, and intend to capitalize on achievements in agriculture to facilitate the provision of project implementation tools and practices on capacity building for rural actors to mobilize funds within and outside the country.

Key figures:

  •     Since September 1962, the Peace Corps has been working in Cameroon to promote sustainable development in sectors such as agriculture, education and health.
  •      Since its inception, the Peace Corps has mobilized more than 3,900 volunteers to work with the government and people of Cameroon to improve living conditions.
