Cleaning up the motorcycle cab sector: MINAT wants to get to the root of the problem

With a view to combating insecurity, the Minister of Territorial Administration (MINAT), Paul ATANGA NJI, raised awareness on Friday October 06, 2023, among importers and sellers of two-wheeled machines of the obligation to identify the players. The meeting took place at Yaoundé City Hall. "This meeting is being held in compliance with an instruction from the Head of State, who felt that there was a lot of disorder in the motorcycle cab sector, with recurrent acts of banditry (assault, rape, accidents, etc.). But it's not all bad. There are also a lot of honest people, with organized unions that provide drivers with a framework and raise their awareness. We focus on the bandits who operate without identification and who engage in criminal acts. Logically, all buyers must be identified. That's the way to get to the root of the problem. We have therefore raised awareness among our partners, the importers and sellers. Anyone who has not been identified can no longer drive a motorcycle in Cameroon. You need to have at least a national identity card, an A driver's license, a numbered jacket, an indication from the town hall, a license plate and membership of a trade union. This allows the authorities to know who they are dealing with", said MINAT.
