The more we listen to what the private sector has to say, the better it is for the Cameroonian economy

Mr. Célestin Tawamba, President of GICAM

Employers are represented in some 50 public sector decision-making bodies. This allows the voice of the private sector to be heard, particularly on issues of credit, social law, trade policy, investment, competitiveness, competition, etc. We need to rethink our economy. In particular, we need to make agriculture our engine of growth and create national champions. This national strategy will need to involve all components of the private sector, as well as all relevant public sector components, namely planning, economics, energy, transport, estates and land affairs, finance and trade. With respect to economic programs with the IMF, the results remain mixed, at least when viewed through the prism of the private sector. GICAM advises that we cannot indefinitely be under structural adjustment, as the provisional cannot settle permanently in our economic environment.
